NFPA2112 Standard on Flame-Resistant Garments for Protection of Industrial Personnel Against Flash Fire
NFPA2112 specifies the minimum requirements and test methods for flame-resistant fabrics and components and the design, construction, evaluation and certification of garments for use by industrial personnel, with the intent of not contributing to the burn injury of the wearer, providing a degree of protection to the wearer, and reducing the severity of burn injuries resulting from short-duration thermal exposures or accidental exposure to flash fires.
ASTM F1506 Standard Performance Specification for Flame Resistant Textile Materials for Wearing Apparel for Use by Electrical Workers Exposed to Momentary Electric Arc and Related Thermal Hazards
This performance specification covers the flame resistant of textile materials to be used for wearing apparel for use by electrical workers exposed to momentary electric arc and related thermal hazards. It does not cover coated fabrics commonly used in rainwear. Materials used for basic protection levels are covered; Protective properties related to thermal exposure from momentary arc and associated exposure to open flame and radiant heat; it covers wearing apparel design characteristics that relate specifically to protection from exposure to momentary electric arc and that relate to the utility of the wearing apparel.
ASTM F1891 Standard Specification for Arc and Flame Resistant Rainwear
This specification establishes applicable test methods, minimum physical and thermal performance criteria, a suggested sizing guide, and suggested purchasing information for rainwear for use by workers who may be exposed to thermal hazards of momentary electric arcs and open flames. It does not apply to the electrical contact hazards or electric shock hazards involved with electric arcs, neither apply to flash fire hazards such as industrial hydrocarbon flash fires or other petrochemical flash fire hazards.
ASTM F2733 Standard Specification for Flame Resistant Rainwear for Protection Against Flame Hazards
This specification establishes applicable test methods, minimum physical and thermal performance criteria, a suggested sizing guide, and suggested purchasing information for rainwear for use by workers who are potentially exposed to industrial hydrocarbon fires or other petrochemical fire hazards. It does not apply to rainwear used for thermal electric arc flash hazards. Specification of rainwear for these electric arc flash hazards are addressed in Specification F1891.
NFPA70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace
This standard addresses electrical safety-related work practices, safety-related maintenance requirements, and other administrative controls for employee workplaces that are necessary for the practical safeguarding of employees relative to the hazards accociated with electrical energy during activities such as installation, inspection, operation, maintenance, and demolition of electric conductors, electric equipment, signaling and communications conductors and equipment, and raceways. It also includes safe work practices for employees performing other work activities that can expose them to electrical hazards as well as safe work practices for the (1) Installation of conductors and equipment that connect to the supply of electricity, (2) Installations used by the electric utility, such as office buildings, warehouses, garages, machine shops, and recreational buildings that are not an integral part of a generating plant, substation, or control center.
PPE CATAGORY FOR ARC-RATED CLOTHING :
PPE Catagory 1 - Arc-rated Clothing, Minimum Arc Rating of 4 cal/cm²
PPE Catagory 2 - Arc-rated Clothing, Minimum Arc Rating of 8 cal/cm²
PPE Catagory 3 - Arc-rated Clothing Selected so That the System Arc Rating Meets the Required Minimum Arc Rating of 25 cal/cm²
PPE Catagory 4 - Arc-rated Clothing Selected so That the System Arc Rating Meets the Required Minimum Arc Rating of 40 cal/cm²
CAN/GSB155.20 Workwear for Protection Against Hydrocarbon Flash Fire
This standard states the minimum requirements for performance of workwear worn for protection against unplanned exposure to hydrocarbon flash fire. It establishes performance requirements and test methods for evaluation of components used to construct workwear. Workwear meeting this standard is intended to provide a degree of protection to the wearer and reduce the severity of injury should a hydrocarbon flash fire occur. For the purpose of this standard, "protective" does not mean that a wearer will suffer no burns if exposed to flash fire while wearing workwear meeting this standard. It refers to protective workwear that will be worn as outermost garment, as well as protective workwear that individually or in combination covers the body from the neck to the wrists and feet, that may or may not cover the neck, head, hands and feet. It does not apply to specialized protective clothing such as proximity suits, fire flighters' protective clothing and fire-entry clothing. It is not intended to establish requirements for protection from chemical, radiological, electrical or biological hazards.
EN ISO11612 Protective Clothing - Clothing to Protect Against Heat and Flame
This International Standard specifies performance requirements for garments made from flexible materials, which are designed to protect the wearer's body, except the hands, from heat and/or flame. For protection of the wearer's head and feet, the only items of protective clothing falling within the scope of this international standard are gaiters, hoods and overboots. However, concerning hoods, requirements for visors and respiratory equipment are not given. The performance requirements set out in this international standard are applicable to garments which could be worn for a wide range of end uses, where there is a need for clothing with limited flame spread properties and where the user can be exposed to radiant or convective or contact heat or to molten metal splashes. It's not applicable to protective clothing that is specified by other international standards, such as for firefighting in structures and for use in welding and allied processes.
EN ISO14116 Protective Clothing - Protection Against Heat and Flame - Limited Flame Spread Materials, Material Assemblies and Clothing
This International Standard specifies the performance requirements for the limited flame spread properties of materials, material assemblies and protective clothing in order to reduce the possibility of the clothing burning and thereby itself constituting a hazard. Additional requiremnts for clothing are also specified. Protective clothing complying with this international standard is intended to protect workers against occasional and brief contact with small igniting flames, in circumstances where there is no significant heat hazard and without the presence of another type of heat. When protection against heat hazards is necessary in addition to protection against limited spread flammability, then standards, such as ISO 11612, are more appropriate. A classification system is given for materials, material assemblies and garments which are tested according to ISO 15025:2000, Procedure A. Classification : Index 1, Index 2, Index 3. If protective clothing contains Index 1 materials, these materials shall not be worn next to skin.
EN 1149 Protective Clothing - Electrostatic Properties - Material Performance and Design Requirements
This European Standard is part of a series of standards for test methods and requirements for electrostatic properties of protective clothing. Different parts are necessary, because of the various fields of application and materials. EN 1149 contains 5 parts : (1) Test method for measurement of surface resistivity; (2) Test method for measurement of the electrical resistance through a material (vertical resistance); (3) Test methods for measurement of charge decay; (4) Garment test (under development); (5) Material performance and design requirements. This standard specifies material and design requirements for electrostatic dissipative protective clothing, used as part of a total earthed system, to avoid incendiary discharges. The requirements may not be sufficient in oxygen enriched flammable atmospheres. This European Standard is not applicable for protection against mains voltages.
EN ISO13688 Protective Clothing - General Requirements
This International Standard specifies general performance requirements for ergonomics, innocuousness, size designation, ageing, compatibility and marking of protective clothing and the information to be supplied by the manufacturer with the protective clothing. This International Standard is only intended to be used in combination with other standards containing requirements for specific protective performance and not on a stand-alone basis.
